One of the biggest benefits of using Standards-Based Grading is that grades become more transparent for students and parents. You can leverage Integrade and myRCS to provide feedback to all stakeholders about a student's "behavioral" scores (such as work completion) and proficiency related to specific standards. This allows students to self-reflect and take ownership of their own strengths and areas for improvement.

Weighting Standards, Summative Assessments, and Homework
Set up your Grading Rules in Integrade using specific categories such as "Standards" and "Homework" instead of "Quizzes" and "Tests" so that parents and students know what a particular score actually means. If you're all-in on standards based grading, make sure that the "Homework" category has a weight of 0!

*Note that in order to make the weighting of Standards, Summative Assessments, and Homework work properly, your gradebook will need to be changed to Weighted Type for each class.
Under "Setup" => "Spreadsheets", you will have to change the Calculation Method for each quarter and each class separately to "Weighted Type." |
Special Scores for Communicating "Behaviors"
Set up Special Scores in the Grading Rules menu for homework assignments so that you can communicate behaviors without assigning a numerical score to the assignment. For example, "full" can indicate full completion or participation, while "partial" and "late" can indicate other behaviors.
Keep the Score Value as "Excused" for all of these options, as parents and students should be able to keep track of homework completion without having it negatively impact the final grade. |
Communicating Accurate Performance Using Standards
Instead of creating tasks such as "Chapter 9 Quiz," considering creating tasks like "4. Performing Operations with Polynomials" and "5. Solving x^2+bx+c" so that the grades for these scores have a specific meaning. You can give similar quizzes and assessments to the ones you did before; the only thing that changes is how you report the grades in Integrade (by skill instead of by quiz).
